Hanes and other Mac engineers complain that problems with the 2003 transition to Mac OS X still rankle some users and even today
[05/03 10:17PM]

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple(Apple Laptop Batteries) is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.

The App Store on iPad lets you wirelessly browse, buy and download new apps from the world's largest app store. iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for iPad and will run almost all of the more than 150,000 apps on the App(A1185 Battery) Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®. Developers are already creating exciting new apps designed for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch interface, large screen and high-quality graphics.

Either way, it seems counterproductive for an executive to discount the usefulness of his own company's services. Part of this might have to do with the technological problems AT&T has suffered over the immense influx of iPhone-related traffic on the company's 3G network, and the resulting public relations fallout.

Hanes and other Mac engineers complain that problems with the 2003 transition to Mac OS X still rankle some users and even today, Apple(Apple A1022 Battery) doesn't give them a roadmap for products. They need this sort of heads up to test upcoming Apple products and make sure they work flawlessly in their environments before users demand them. "We would really love to see Apple take a stand, but that's not happening," Hanes says.

The EliteBook 2740p will come with Intel's latest standard voltage and low voltage Core processors. A six-cell battery will provide it with five hours of runtime, while a slice HP DV2000 battery, which is attached under the device, can provide up to 11 hours of battery life.

"We expect the demand for MIDs in North America to rise at the end of 2010 and into 2011," Inbrics' chief marketing officer Bobby Cha told Betanews. "All of the major wireless carriers have a plan that includes a MID separate from their phones."

The Sapphire N450 netbook was on display alongside the Sapphire Mini Projector. With a long-life LED Light source that lasts up to 20,000 hours, the product can project bright and clear images in the 640 x 480 VGA resolution. The image size can range between 7.5 inches and 65 inches and the FPCBP101 battery used is an NP60 1200mAh, for a life of up to 140 minutes. Finally, in addition to laptops, the accessory is compatible with iPods, mobile phones and digital cameras.

Additionally, Intel has added rubber to the edges so the netbook can withstand scratches and bumps. But the material and larger screen have made the netbook a bit bulkier, Kwan said. With a four-cell battery the device will weigh about three pounds (1.36 kilograms), while the six-cell option will weigh 3.5 pounds.

After you have captured your images, you can use the creative styles preset modes that allow you to put final touch-ups with no hassle. The Memory stick slot that allows for additional memory and a Lithium rechargeable PCGA-BP71 battery for long shooting life of over 1000 frames. An output cable enables you to view the images on a HD Bravia screen. To store and sort your images on a PC or laptop, the Sony DSLR-A450Y cokes with software that is easy to install and use. The Sony Alpha’s price range is in the 700 Sterling Pound ballpark but it is worth every penny for this kind of quality, technology, and style.

Lenovo's other announced products include the lightweight power performer X201

The glossy black finish, etched with a spread of varying gray pinstripes that Toshiba calls "quantum black," is much like many other Satellites(Satellite A50 battery): curved and flashy, but awfully eager to show off smudges and prints. We liked the interior better, which is fortunate, since the A505 seems destined for a life seated on a desk, sedentary and unlikely to ever move into a backpack or bag.

The 17.3-inch display features LED backlighting and a cinematic 16:9 native resolution. Its 1,600x900-pixel native resolution is common in a laptop of this size. Watching HD videos is great on the big display and the extra viewing area will be appreciated by anyone using this as a full-time display instead of connecting to an external monitor.

Most interestingly, the new ProBooks come with a feature called “HP DayStarter,” which displays the upcoming 12 hours of your Microsoft Outlook calendar and a HP dv8000 battery life meter as the system boots Windows 7. It’s a nice touch of productivity that could eliminate the requisite morning coffee trip as your computer starts up.

The Dell(Inspiron 6400 Battery) Inspiron i1564-6980CRD's 15.6-inch glossy wide-screen LCD has 1,366x768-pixel native resolution, which is standard for laptops in this price range (while budget 15-inch systems typically have 1,280x800-pixel displays). It's perfectly adequate for most mainstream applications with easy-to-read text and icons. The LED-backlit LCD gets reasonably bright, too. Viewing angles off to the sides are pretty good, but like most displays in this class, you'll have to adjust the screen position to get the best contrast. Overall, the display's color and contrast performance is good.

A northbridge is no longer necessary because the N4xx chips, along with the D410 and D510, bring their memory controllers and graphics cores (the GMA3150) on-die, as pictured below. Calling this "a first in the industry on x86 chips," Intel said in December that the total chipset footprint for netbooks has decreased in size by approximately 60 percent, while entry-level desktop PCs get a nearly 70 percent reduction in footprint.

Lenovo's other announced products include the lightweight power performer X201 which features Intel Core i7-620M processor at 2.66GHz that Lenovo(ThinkPad X61 battery) claims to clock over three gigahertz when in turbo boost mode. There's also a claimed battery life of 11 hours, or 12 hours on the even thinner and lighter X201s.

The Plus’s physical changes compared to the first Pre are all minor: The home button on the phone’s front has been replaced by a glowing virtual slit, the keyboard has been tweaked (with a firmer feel and new monochrome look), and the sliding mechanism, which some criticized as flimsy, is more solid. The phone also comes with a back that’s compatible with Palm’s nifty Touchstone charging station as standard equipment; with the original Pre, it was an extra-cost option.

"We need high-density, low-power solutions," said Kock. Computer chips are constantly getting smaller and smaller, but they are approaching the fundamental limits of electron-based computing. Light-based computing is one option to improve the speed and power of computers.

"Lenovo's ThinkPad(ThinkPad X60 Battery) mobile workstations have helped us increase our productivity by 20 percent," said Alan Duerden, lead systems engineer, McLaren Racing. "We rely on these mobile workstations for determining computational fluid dynamics and rendering high performance graphics to improve the car's design as well as to support our drivers on the track."

Executing more than single application on the Laptop raises the usage of the hard drive and CPU which utilizes more FPCBP155 battery. Carrying out several observations it had established that notebook gives finest performance on keeping single application in stead of using multiple tasks at a time so you need to stop all applications & still if the simple application also, Shutting off current application for running fresh program.

ATI's answer to coexisting with Intel is switchable graphics, where users can manually switch between Intel's IGP and ATI's discrete GPU
[25/02 09:34PM]

The Asus U50F's Intel Core i3 M330 CPU, a newcomer and part of Intel's new processor lineup for 2010, has impressed us with its speed and overall multitasking performance, especially for the price range in which it's being slotted. Just $629 for the performance this Core i3 offers is a great value, and one of the chief advantages of the U50F.

In our battery test — during which we loop an Xvid video, disable power management, enable the wireless adapter and maximise the screen brightness — the N61Ja lasted 1hr 42min. This is seven minutes more than the Samsung(Samsung Laptop Batteries) R580 lasted using an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics adapter. When we switched to the battery-saving mode, we got just over two hours in the same test. Both notebooks use a 6-cell battery; unlike the battery on the Samsung, the ASUS doesn't have a physical indicator on it to let you know at a glance how much charge is left.

The most disappointing aspect of the Pavilion dv4-2155dx's performance was its battery life. At only 2 hours and 7 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, the included six-cell battery doesn't provide much uptime away from an outlet. Our test keeps the 7,200rpm hard drive constantly in use, which is pretty taxing on the HP dv3000 battery. You can expect longer life from casual Web surfing and office use, but long flights are probably still out of the question. Also, the mobile broadband technology won't do battery life any favors should you opt to use it.

The best time to think about whether a computer company builds reliable machines and backs them well is before you plunk down any money, not after something goes wrong. No manufacturer ships defect-free systems or makes every customer happy: At the moment, for instance, Apple(M8416 Battery) is dealing with widespread complaints about faulty iMac screens.

With USB ports, HDMI and VGA ports, and its CD/DVD burning drive, the UL50VT is generally capable of handling any mainstream computing needs. While Bluetooth is not included--it's a common omission in budget laptops--the UL50VT-RBBBK05 has 802.11n Wi-Fi, as well as a generous 500GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM.

ATI's answer to coexisting with Intel is switchable graphics, where users can manually switch between Intel's IGP and ATI's discrete GPU. This requires user intervention and a logout, so that the display can be handed off from one GPU to the other. And if you switch over to the discrete GPU and then move your laptop from wall power to FPCBP101 battery power without first switching back to the IGP, you could drain your battery accidentally. For this and other, more technical reasons, switchable graphics is not the answer, and ATI will have to match Optimus's features, performance, and low cost if it wants anyone to consider Radeon as a GPU for Intel mobile platforms.

At the show we were regularly getting between four and six hours depending on how hard we were thrashing the Wi-Fi and how much video work we were doing, not quite the eight hours purported by Sony(VGP-BPS2A battery), but pretty impressive in our books.

When the laptops are in standby or hibernation modes, at least one USB port remains powered. This allows users to charge other devices or run USB-powered devices while the laptop is otherwise not powered up.Laptop Highlights. The W701 and W701ds weigh 8.973 lbs and measure 16.14 by 12.2 by 1.59. They come with a 17-inch WUXGA/WXGA+ display. A second display option is available on the W701ds, a 10.6-inch WXGA screen.

The Active Protection System is a no-brainer, though. It measures the motion your laptop is undergoing, and stops the hard drive platter from spinning if it detects too much motion--as when you've just dropped the machine, say. Active Protection is one of my favorite Lenovo(ThinkPad T40 Battery) features, and it's great to see it on the U150. But for the most part, I could do without most of what Lenovo includes with this machine, given how much I can get done just through the OS (which the U150 runs snappily).

It's hard not to love the M11x after spending some time with it. It takes the traditional laptop and netbook formula and tilts the balance in unconventional ways, resulting in novel tradeoffs. It's sized like a netbook but it costs as much as many mainstream laptops -- and weighs as much as some of them. It has a slow CPU but a fast GPU that eats battery power voraciously enough that we'd probably just leave switched off until it was time to game -- otherwise known as "most of the time" for us.

Normally, netbooks are built with entry-level graphics and processing capabilities

In anecdotal use, we found the Vaio Z116 to be probably the fastest 13-inch laptop we've used, and great for effortless multitasking, aided no doubt by the 256GB solid state hard drive. Then again, for a $2,000-plus laptop, we'd expect nothing less.

As I mentioned above, the HP(HP NX7400 Battery) Pavilion MS214 comes with a wired mouse and keyboard. They’re pretty standard fare. Honestly I have a hard time telling one USB mouse from another at this point. But this model is an optical USB mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel.

The HP Mini 311 was the slowest notebook in this raft of tests when it came to transcoding video and audio files. It did beat the Asus Eee(Asus A22-700 Battery) PC 100H in the folder zip and folder copy tests, but I blame the 18-month old hard drive in the Eee PC for that.

Unsurprisingly, the prime feature of the netbook is its ability to handle HD media files, including performing playback at 720p. Normally, netbooks are built with entry-level graphics and processing capabilities, because they are not meant for more than just basic Internet-browsing tasks. Online video, however, is becoming increasingly popular and, as such, Acer(BTP-63D1 Battery) used NVIDIA's new platform to create a portable device with this capability.

The power cable alteration, which comes courtesy of a modder going by the handle "Freeload", is relatively easy to complete, simple to remove and shouldn't harm your laptop or power adapter.

His modification takes a normal laptop power connection and transforms it in to something similar to Apple's patented MagSafe adapter. Apple(Apple A1175 Battery)'s MagSafe, which was introduced back in 2006, is a power connection which is held in place magnetically. If pulled, the power cable simply pops-out, instead of dragging the would-be attached laptop with it.

The Acer beTouch E400 has Facebook and Twidroid integrated into the phone and allows them to keep in touch with friends and family through email, IM and social networks. There is also GPS-enabled Google Maps which feature Latitude, Traffic, Street View and POI search. Music enthusiasts can conduct exclusive music streaming with Acer(BATCL32 Battery) Spinlets as well as listen to songs via the standard 3.5mm audio jack. The mobile also offers customers the new Android Market Place from where they can acquire a new application, game or software update.

When you are looking for a laptop that is ultra-portable, you may think that you have to suffer on technology and performance
[07/02 01:34AM]

Wipro InfoTech, the hardware arm of Wipro Limited, has launched a new range of eco-friendly Wipro Green ware desktops that comply with the European Union standard on Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) — the information technology industry's most strictest guidelines on the use of and limits on hazardous substances. These green desktops are manufactured with materials completely free of harmful chemicals such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). Such eco-friendly products have been designed and manufactured in India for the first time.

Disguised as a battle centred around the freedom of the web, we now have Apple(Apple M7385 Battery), Adobe and Google in the ring, dishing it out. Who started it?  Who knows! But things are getting interesting.

When you are looking for a laptop that is ultra-portable, you may think that you have to suffer on technology and performance. While this may be true for some laptops, the following may be smaller than average, but it still packs quite a technological punch. The ASUS(Eee PC 1000 Battery) 13.3-Inch Core 2 Notebook Series Laptop, Model: W7S-B2W may be smaller than the average laptop, being only 13.3-Inches, but it still has one of the fastest processors in the industry as well as advanced features that will enhance the entertainment quality of this laptop.

The X200 has a good variety of features for a thin and light category tablet. It has three USB ports, 5-in-1 Card Reader, PCI ExpressCard, VGA, RJ-11 and RJ-45, microphone and headphone and if you get the dock tons more. The dock is small enough to travel with you or use at your desk to have four more USB ports, an optical drive and the ability to charge that spare laptop battery.

Overall, the ProBook 5310m is sort of a big deal. HP(HP NX7400 Battery) totally hit the mark with the hardware and they did it for $899, a reasonable price for a system that performs as well as this one and still manages 6+ hours of battery life. If you don’t need an optical drive or discrete graphics this is a computer to keep your eye on, whether you need it for business or not. The biggest problem is that it’s crammed in the stack of ProBooks, which tend to be pretty average, so not many buyers will probably ever happen upon it.

In order to provide the best pen tablet experience possible, Wacom has created a line of accessories that includes several different types of pens. For example, the newly designed Art Pen supports the barrel rotation feature within such applications as Adobe Photoshop®, Illustrator® and Corel® Painter® 11, PA3450U-1BRS,allowing users to create natural brush effects by rotating the pen, much like a calligraphy pen. The Intuos4 Airbrush has a similar form and wheel-based control as a traditional airbrush, providing creative, fun effects when combined with select applications.

Satellite broadcaster BSkyB is aiming to bring 3D to the UK next year, with 3D broadcasts of movies and sports. Costs will drastically go down, too, as most people see only a small increase in price to make HDTVs 3D-ready, and it will likely be a standard feature in HDTVs, just like HD before it.

It would be tempting to start covering the core components of a laptop by focusing on the CPU or graphics subsystem, but it's the screen that defines what the machine will be used for.

For air travelers, the department would also prohibit air passengers from keeping extra alkaline or rechargeable nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) laptop batteries in their checked-in luggage. Those batteries are acceptable if they are inside the devices. They are also permitted inside or outside devices if stored in carry-on luggage.
